This summary comes from the official Ultraman Card Game announcement published July 23, 2026. The Comprehensive Rules (Ver. 1.7, last updated July 10, 2026) do not cover Colors or Boost Cards yet. When the rules document is updated, it is the final word.
The Color System is a new mechanic that starts with SD04 “Ultraman & Ultraman Cosmos” and BP09 “Here He Comes! Our Hero!”. It adds Colors to Character Cards, and Colors are used to pay the cost of Boost Cards, a new card category.
The five Colors
Every Character Card is assigned one of five Colors:
- Red
- Blue
- Purple
- Yellow
- Green
A Color has no ability of its own. It matters only when you pay a Boost Card’s cost.
Older cards count as Colorless
Character Cards released before the Color System, and any Character Card without a Color, are treated as Colorless. They stay fully playable, and they can pay Colorless costs (the part of a cost with no Color).
Boost Cards
- During your Draw Phase, after you draw, you may place one Boost Card from your hand into your Boost Area. This works the same whether you went first or second.
- When you place a Boost Card this way, you may draw a card.
- Only one Boost Card can be placed into the Boost Area each Draw Phase.
- During the Effect Activation Phase, you can activate the effect of a Boost Card in your Boost Area by paying its cost. There is no limit to how many Boost Cards you activate in one turn, as long as you can pay each cost.
Paying a Boost Card cost
The cost is shown in the upper-left corner of the Boost Card. For example, a cost of 3 can be 1 Red plus 2 Colorless.
You pay it by turning face down Character Cards stacked beneath your Character through Level Up:
- Each colored part of the cost needs a Character Card of that Color.
- A Colorless part can be paid with any Character Card: a Colorless card or a card of any Color.
- Unless a card says otherwise, Character Cards turned face down to pay a cost cannot be used again for the rest of the game.
Worked example
The official announcement shows Officer Akiko Fuji, cost 3 (1 Red + 2 Colorless), and Radiant Stone, cost 3 (1 Blue + 2 Colorless). Here is Officer Akiko Fuji paid from a stack of three Level Up cards:
Cost: 3
R C C 1 Red + 2 Colorless
Stacked beneath your Character:
- Red card: pays the Red part
- Blue card: pays 1 Colorless
- Older Colorless card: pays 1 Colorless
All three cards are turned face down and stay that way for the rest of the game. A Blue card cannot pay the Red part, so with no Red card in the stack, this cost cannot be paid.
